Tranquillity Island Resort

Operate a Dive Base and Eco-Tourism Resort, mixed with other outdoor “get away from it all’’ activities on an area of 380 hectares of Moso island which is located off the north west side of the island of Efate, our mainland departure point being about a 35 minutes drive from Port Vila and a 15 minute boat ride from the mainland. Many of our guests are also non-divers, they enjoy the atmosphere of Tranquillity and apart from just relaxing can join in our activities with snorkeling, bushwalking, canoeing, kayaking or just being with nature. Some even use the opportunity to do an
introductory dive while on Tranquillity.

Configuration of the base is set up with Island style Beach House restaurant and bar at the northern end of the base, with compressor station, dive gear house and generator facility / workshop in the center, near the wharf. Accommodation, i.e. our Island Style beachfront fares, is located at the southern end

The accommodation includes five Island style Beachfront fares and two Dormitories, which appeal greatly to the divers and adventurous types if they wish to stay on the island. It must be noted that this is not your normal resort type of accommodation but is pleasantly different. They have a thatch roof and are fully insect-screened. The beds are comfortable. There is a single and double bed in five of the fares (two fares can be configured to sleep 4 pax) and the dorms have eight singles. They all have a private hot and cold shower and flush toilet.  Each fare has a small private beach area in front.

As we are not into mass tourism, the base catering is on a set menu system with three good quality meals per day as well as morning and afternoon tea/coffee. Any special dietary needs can be looked after provided we are advised in advance.

We operate dives on a Day basis or overnight. We normally do two dives a day and night dives can be arranged on request. We have two dive boats, “Island Diver”, our main operations boat, has a walk in platform with an easy access ladder at the rear. The vessel has a toilet and a small galley. Shore dives are available as well.

Reef and drop – off diving are our specialties and we have over sixteen dive sites, including a wreck dive.  We have sufficient dive sites to ensure that most divers do not have do repeat a dive during their stay. A lot of divers however, request to do repeat dives on certain sites. Snorkellers also go out on the dive boat, as many of the dive sites are good for snorkelling too.

Average water visibility is around 25 to 30 meters and often exceeds this. Water temperature ranges from 23 degrees in our “winter” to 30 degrees during the summer or wet season.
Quite often turtles and dugongs are seen close to the base. For non-divers we have several snorkelling sites as well as bush walks to various parts of the property and, at low tide, reef walking is possible.

We have our Turtle Farm that has approximately 150 baby Hawksbill turtles in it to be reared to release state for a greater chance of survival.
Tranquillity also has a sister company that operates in the same general area. This is Coongoola Cruises, which operates a 74’ (23 meters) Sailing ketch.  The Coongoola Day Cruise is an excellent day out away from it all.  Guests at Tranquillity are welcome to join the cruise for a day during their stay.
Power is available (10.5 KVA) however most lighting is in theme with the Eco Tourism style of the base is using alternatives.
