"The oldest hotel in Alotau, and for many years it was the only hotel. It began as a domestic residence in the 1960s when Alotau was a tiny outpost of the colonial administration. Around 1970 it transformed into an 8-bedroom guest house to accommodate construction workers who were building houses for Government officers. In 1977 it was purchased by the locally owned company – Masurina Ltd, at this stage still a fledgling enterprise. As the township of Alotau grew, Masurina Lodge also grew bit by bit to accommodate the increasing flow of visitors.
