Gourmet Seafood & Grille
Convent street

"you can start your day with fresh fruit pies and muffins at this popular local establishment, which would win all awards for charm in the inexpensive-restaurant category anywhere. Large tree trunks hold up the roof, under which fishnets form a ceiling. Buoys and other nautical items add to the atmosphere. There's nothing gourmet here, but the hallmark is fresh fish. You'll get a monstrous slab of grilled mahimahi, most likely caught earlier in the day, served with french fries and a salad. You can also get fish and chips, and New Zealand steaks. Get here early before the locals scarf down all of Apia's best oka (marinated raw fish with coconut cream and vegetables)."

"Tropical plants and furnishings lend appropriate atmosphere to this elegant, air-conditioned dining room with a view of Apia from the ground floor of Aggie's. Slacks and dresses are required for evening meals, which feature local and New Zealand produce in a variety of preparations. You may see veal saltimbocca, Pacific smoked salmon, or rack of lamb in an herb crust. The best night to dine here is on Saturday, when a seafood buffet is loaded with fresh local fish, crab, and lobsters, plus morsels flown in from New Zealand waters; it's a steal at S$70 (US$23) per person."

" the first place Robert Louis Stevenson lived when he arrived here in 1889 -- into one of the South Pacific's most charming restaurants. Be sure to reserve a table on the front porch above Beach Road, where you'll get a view over the white-and-blue railing to Apia Harbour. The creamy lobster bisque loaded with chunks of lobster is out of this world. For a main course, move on to citrus fish poached in lime and white wine. You can order a breakfast of eggs and bacon all day. Lunch features salads, sandwiches, and burgers, and Ian and Lyvia keep the bar open all day for drinks, the second best cappuccino in town, and snacks (including Commodore Sashimi). Nautical decor and jazz on the speakers add to the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Dine early here on Friday and Saturday nights, before the bars next door strike up their noisy bands."
