"This lagoonside restaurant has been among Tahiti's finest since 1974. Owner Jean Galopin was named a Maître Cuisinier (Master Chef) de France in 1987, in large part because of his unique blending of French and Tahitian styles of cooking. He has shared many of his techniques in a popular cookbook, La Cuisine de Tahiti et des Iles. His fafa (chicken and taro leaves steamed in coconut milk) is in marked contrast with what comes out of a local himaa on a Sunday afternoon. The roof over the main dining room opens to reveal the twinkling stars above. Guests are welcome to visit the air-conditioned wine cellar and choose from among excellent French vintages. A special tourist menu features poisson cru and main courses such as a light mahimahi soufflé."

"Although not on a par with Le Lotus at the Inter-Continental Resort Tahiti , Le Meridien Tahiti's fine-dining outlet has tables under a round thatch roof and romantically posited out on the deck with a view of both the beach and the resort's wade-in swimming pool -- but not of Moorea. Although basically French, the cuisine has numerous island influences, such as escalopes sautee served in a "beggar's purse" of taro leaves with sauce of curry and coconut milk. The fixed-price dinners offer two or three courses."

"Cost-conscious guests at Le Meridien Tahiti walk next door to Pacific Burger, the open-air snack-bar side of this otherwise Italian restaurant, for good, reasonably priced salads, poisson cru, sashimi, pizzas from a wood-fired oven, burgers (beef, chicken, or fish), grilled rib-eye steaks, and fish with or without sauce. A big tarp covers plastic patio tables and chairs in front of the fast-food-style counter. The menu is in French and English. The Tahiti Museum is a few blocks away, so this is a good place to stop for refreshment on your round-island tour."

"Along with Le Lotus , this lagoonside restaurant shares top rank as Tahiti's most romantic place to dine, especially the tables out on the lawn, where you will have a gorgeous look at Moorea. Other tables shaded by a thatch cabana also share the view. The cuisine is light in the French nouvelle cuisine tradition, with island influences such as shrimp marinated in lime juice and coconut milk. There's also a scaled-down tourist menu. Arrive early enough for a drink or glass of fine champagne while the sun sets over Moorea."

"The blues cascade from speakers at this American-style, brass-and-dark-wood pub, whose food is much better than at the otherwise comparable Les 3 Brasseurs . the show is definitely French, with the likes of andouille sausage in mustard sauce, mahimahi meunière, an Alsatian-style casserole, Moroccan couscous, and rib-eye steaks with Roquefort, pepper, or béarnaise sauces. The French country-style paysan and other plate-size salads make healthy meals unto themselves. Try for a sidewalk table."

"You'll find a breakfast of a small quiche or a tasty pastry with strong French coffee at this kiosklike building on the southwest corner of Centre Vaima. In addition to dishing out ice cream and milkshakes to passersby at a sidewalk counter, it serves up a variety of goodies, from crispy casse-croûtes to two substantial plats-du-jour selections each day, on a covered dining terrace and in an air-conditioned dining room upstairs."

"the quality of its food and service tends to be up and down, but this microbrewery with sidewalk tables is a fine spot for a cold one while waiting for the Moorea ferry at the docks across the boulevard. The tabloid menu is all in French, but the waitstaff speaks enough English to explain the offerings. Choose from sandwiches, salads, roast chicken served hot or cold, or grilled steaks, mahimahi, and tuna plain or with optional French sauces. Jarret de porc, smoked ham hocks served with sautéed potatoes and sauerkraut, reminds me of the Southern soul food of my youth. The best deal here is the croque brasseurs, a ham sandwich served under melted Gruyère cheese and accompanied by a beer and a green salad with excellent vinaigrette dressing, all for 900CFP (US$9)"

".The stainless-steel counter in this air-conditioned, no-smoking establishment presents a selection of sandwiches, salads, Chinese dishes, and French fare such as chicken in cream sauce. No English is necessary; just point to what you want. Dim-sum dumplings augment such traditional French breakfast fare as croissants and coffee, or you can order eggs cooked any way you like them. "
